The Pre Impact of the Golf Swing (front view)
This is the pre-impact position. Maintaining some angle between the left arm and the shaft of the club can help maximize your clubhead speed and really helps with your iron play contact. The contact will be very crisp in most cases. The driver does not demand this position as much as the irons do. At this point your weight should be well into the left leg 70 – 30.
From this point on to the finish the body engages and turns through, staying in sequence ahead of the arms and club. Keep it in sequence and hit it good all the time. COMMON MISTAKE Many golfers have stopped their body turn at this point causing the 90 degree angle formed between the left arm and shaft to be extending into the ground. When this happens too many times and not corrected in time, the player will now bend their arms to not hit the ground anymore but now are stuck with top shots. PRO TIP If an experienced player is not turning at this point it usually means their hips or lower back are too tight or the left foot is not flared out enough or your lie angle could be too flat.
