When you get to the top of the backswing, your weight should feel 50 – 50 between both feet when playing irons. If playing a driver a very slight shift to your back foot is ok. (the right foot in this case) The key to good iron play is getting the bottom of your swing arc 3 ” to the left of the ball. (the divot). So if your backswing is simple with no funky weight shifts, all you have to do is shift left on the downswing and you will catch the ball first then the ground. Perfect! If you have a tendency to shift to the back foot for all golf swings, you will have to be incredibly athletic, talented, lucky and retired so you can practice every day to keep it just a little consistent. COMMON MISTAKE Shifting to the backswing for all shots causing fat and top shots. PRO TIP Lower body should transfer slightly to the left at the top and the upper body should transfer very slightly right from the players perspective.
