The Takeaway of the Golf Swing (front view)
With irons, as you start your takeaway be careful not to shift your weight aggressively to your back leg which in this case is the right leg. A very slight shift is ok. But having the feeling your weight is staying even on both feet during the backswing will give you the most consistent club to ball contact. COMMON MISTAKE 99% of recreational golfers make the mistake of shifting lots of weight over to their right leg during this part of the back swing. This causes fat shots then leading to top shots. If this is not cured, it will be difficult to play any basic shots that may come up on the course, never mind the tough ones. PRO TIP On the takeaway be sure to have the right hip turning back, so not to be tempted to shift. Just coil in a circle. No obvious shifting.
